The Low Pay Commission – the independent advisory body to the Government – reviews the national minimum wage according to inflation on an annual basis.

The rates that come into force from 1 October 2013 are:

  • The adult rate for workers aged 21 and above will rise 12p, from £6.19 to £6.31 per hour
  • The development rate for workers aged 18-20 will rise 5p, from £4.98 to £5.03 per hour
  • The 16-17 year olds rate will rise by 4p, from £3.68 to £3.72 per hour
  • The apprentice rate will rise by 3p, from £2.65 to £2.68 per hour.
