Preston Grasshoppers ended a four match winless run after securing a much-needed victory at bottom side Luctonians.
Hoppers were without a win since the very start of October, and they got off to the perfect start in Herefordshire with a Sean Taylor penalty giving the away side an early lead.
Luctonians scrum half Louis Silver brought the sides level with the game’s second penalty soon after, but Hoppers responded in brilliant fashion with two tries from Chris Taylor and Peter Altham, both converted by Sean Taylor, to lead 17-3.
Despite being pegged back with two more successful penalties from Silver with half time approaching, Hoppers went into the break with a commanding lead when Alex Zavallis-Roebuck touched down just before the whistle.
The home side came out with a new found belief when the match kicked off again, scoring almost immediately through John Morris, coupled with a successful conversion, to ensure an exciting second half contest for the 320-strong crowd.
Hoppers, however, kept it solid in defence for the remainder of the half, extending their lead through another Sean Taylor penalty, before Louis Silver again reduced the deficit two minutes from time with his fourth penalty of the afternoon, but Hoppers held on for a crucial 25-19 victory.
The win means Hoppers stay just one point above the relegation places after Huddersfield also claimed a much-needed victory at home to Chester, while Luctonians remain rooted to the foot of the table.
Hoppers return to Lightfoot Green this Saturday 21st November to host Sandal RUFC – one of last season’s promoted sides, now enjoying another fantastic campaign having won seven of their opening ten matches.
