The team at Haleys were on the edge of their seats watching the BAFTAs at the weekend. Haleys client Nicola Shindler, Producer of the acclaimed BBC Drama Happy Valley, was one of the nominees.
They didn’t have long to wait as the first award of the evening, presented by Sean Bean and Anna Friel, was for Best Drama Series. There was stiff competition from The Crown, War and Peace and The Durrells but the award went to Happy Valley, starring the wonderful Sarah Lancashire. A delighted Nicola, with members of the production team and cast, took to the stage to collect the award and make her acceptance speech. She thanked the creator of the show, Sally Wainwright, and praised the quality of the scripts, the direction and the cast.
Happy Valley dominated this year’s event in a night of sweeping success for the BBC. It is the second time Sally Wainwright’s police procedural series won the BAFTA for best drama, while Sarah Lancashire was named best leading actress for her portrayal of Sgt Catherine Cawood.
Michael Lucas, Director of Haleys said, ‘We’re fans of the show of course, and it is no stranger to awards, having picked up 12 in the last couple of years. It’s very special to be able to watch an awards ceremony and actually know someone who goes on stage to pick up an award and make the acceptance speech. Not to mention that the series starts with an accountant, Kevin Weatherill, reporting a crime.’
Nicola Shindler’s previous credits include Scott & Bailey, The Mark of Cain and Last Tango in Halifax.
